SEO for Dummies: How to write SEO content

The SEO, English Search Engine Optimization, is an English term that defines optimization methods for search engines. If a site is not known and has no visitors, it does not serve much. The aim of SEO is therefore to allow your site to make itself known on the web.

The great concepts of SEO

Its technical definition states that SEO seeks to optimise the visibility of a website in the choices made by search engines to make it more popular. This technique is based on several methods that are all aimed at the same thing: provide maximum information to content indexing robots that will position a higher site in the search results of Internet users. The aim is therefore, through keyword search, to appear at the highest in search engines results. It is considered that a site is well placed when it is on the first page of the search results, and best in the first 5 places.

Two phases for SEO

The referencing phase refers to all the work that is done to bring a site to the knowledge of Internet users. It is defined as the relationship between a web site and a search engine. This relationship is done through tools such as audits, text submissions, keyword searches, etc.

The positioning phase is the performance aspect of SEO. It’s about putting in place a policy of better place for the site, so that it can allow the first places of search engines. Positioning, a real web strategy, must be monitored over time, it is not just a matter of a few months. Indeed, once the positioning is established and well done, it is important to constantly monitor the arrival of new competitors so as not to fall back into the bottom of the rankings. We must therefore anticipate all competition to keep its place in the results.

How can I get a good positioning on search engines without getting lost with Adwords campaigns? Answer: by working with his natural referencing. Place web content. Directions for use in 10 tips.

1. Writing eye-catching titles

The title is the accroche of the text, so it is essential. It must reflect the subject of the article, but not limited to a succession of keywords. It must therefore be extremely thoughtful, not too long (not more than 65 characters in general) but arouse the desire to read the text anyway.

This is the party to care most, this is the first thing the reader will see when he wants to click on your site. To write good titles for referencing, your titles must be eye-catching, with precise words and strategically chosen. The purpose of the title? Please allow users to stay on the page or click to read the following.

2. Proposing quality content

To have good content, it is obvious that you need to write it yourself and avoid the duplication of content, which Google Panda banned. It is important to produce original and unpublished content. Any duplication is detected by the indexing robots and sanctioned.

3. Writing often

This is a key rule to allow your site to better optimise and monitor users. Of course, the duplication of contents of other sites is highly discouraged, at the risk of being banned by Google and to destroy your site. The use of keywords is important because this is what will allow visitors to Google to arrive on your site. Finally, a good natural referencing requires regular updating of content, to encourage your Internet users to return several times on your site.

The best way to be followed by Internet users, and thus by the indexing robots, is to animate your site as regularly as possible. It is not necessary to write an article every 5 minutes, but constantly renewed content only brings benefits: the more you update your contents, the more the GoogleBot robot will come on your site and your Internet users will visit it. It really is a virtuous circle!

4. No accumulation of key words

It is safer and smarter to create quality content than to try to include all of its keywords. This is once again a very poor practice in the web community and sanctioned by search engines (risk of blacklisting). As for the question of how many key words should be introduced by article, Matt Cutts clearly answered this question in a video: there is no ideal density of keywords.

5. Write on what you know

Each has its own specialty. It is important to stick to the themes defined in the editorial charter of your site. Do not rely on outside topics and adhere to the editorial line set at the beginning. You can find topics that will be of interest to your readers by multiplying angles of approaches, substantive and topical subjects, types of content (articles, brief, folders…). Apply web authoring rules to topics your readers want to read.

6. Selecting relevant images

Treat the quality of images on your site. There are photo databases that offer a visual panel classified by theme. Visuals are a driving force to hold a reader on a site. If you use free images in Google Images, check that they are rights free, using the Google Search wizard for example.

7. Optimize your images for referencing

Think of feeding ALT attribute of images to improve the referencing of your visuals. Images, because they are images, are not referenced. We must then find some good tricks to enable them to have an impact on your site. A small reminder of the different methods… Well indexed its images…

The most important method for properly referencing an image is without doubt indexing. Indexing an image is not as simple as page indexing. And for the reason:

  • no form exists for indexing one or more images.
  • the Sitemaps system is not present for images.
  • Google does not index continuously, so you need to be patient!

To have an overview of images of your site that are indexed by Google, you can search. For example, for our WebRédacteurs site, just type in the Google image search bar: ” site: webredacteurs.com» and we find 80 images indexed in the search engine.

Criteria used by Search Engines
There are different criteria for referencing your images, including:

  • the ALT attribute, contained in the img tag, which allows the short description of the image. Beware of writing a whole paragraph or a succession of keywords! It takes a short sentence that fits perfectly with the image description.
  • the Title attribute, this is the attribute of the img tag, not the title tag of the page. It is not taken into account by search engines but users see it, so it is good to fill it out.
  • file name, useful if you manage your images one by one and you have little. In this case, it is useful to put keywords in relation to the image, use good separator, like dashes, forget special characters, and finally choose JPEG format rather than PNG or GIF formats.
  • legend, located below or above the image. Search engines analyze the context of the image and rely on it. It is better to use terms that are not in the ALT attribute for better referencing.
  • file robot.txt, which can block the indexing of images. Then check that indexing is possible in the robots. txt file.

8. Structure your contents

It is advisable to put titles in H1 and titles in H2, allowing you to sort in your ideas and highlight the most important ones.

9. Feed number descriptions

The meta < description > is a description of your 150-200 character content. This is a very important part of your site optimization because it matches the text that appears under the title in the search results. Treat your titles and descriptions (TITLE and DESCRIPTION tags) so they want to read the suite.

10. Optimize internal mesh

Finally, for a better natural referencing, it is strongly recommended to improve its internal meshing. Indeed, Google is increasingly vigilant about the navigation quality of a web site and searches for relevant navigation links. The anchor of your contextual links is a key SEO optimization factor. The anchor is the text of your hypertext link: an optimized anchor must resemble the requests targeted by users.

In web conferencing, the internal mesh defines all links linking the different pages of the same site between them. This practice is intended to improve navigation within a site, and therefore the user experience, but the internal mesh is also part of good SEO optimization practices.

Indeed, an efficient internal mesh is one of the levers in improving natural referencing. This will allow search engines to access some less visible pages of a website, and also demonstrate to them the consistency and complementarity of the different pages of a site, guaranteeing the quality of the site.

Here are some tips that can help you see more clearly to build your internal meshing.

Consistency of linkages
To build an effective and credible internal mesh for search engines, one of the first rules to be respected is the construction of consistent links with destination pages that provide real added value to the user.

For the sake of consistency, it is therefore preferable to link the pages with a common theme.

Internal mesh is also a navigation aid, which, as we have said, is designed to improve user experience. It must therefore allow fluid and logical navigation between the pages of the site. So, it naturally highlights the consistency of your site in Google’s eyes.

Position of links
For successful internal networking, the positioning of links on your web page plays an important role.

Indeed, links placed at the level of the waterline will be more powerful in terms of SEO optimization, this removes the need for scroller to see them appear, so they are more visible for search engines.

For example, using a breadcrumb thread is an effective way to automatically position internal links in this waterline.

The importance of anchor
The link anchor is the word or expression on which the link will be applied, the anchor usually appears in a different color from the rest of the text content to clearly identify it.

The words chosen to define the link anchor are therefore important and must match the content of the destination page.

This allows fluid navigation and quality for the user, so as not to disappoint him, so we must avoid promising him any information in the anchor that he will not find on the destination page, which is very bad in terms of user experience and credibility.

If possible, it is interesting to insert keywords inside an anchor, but attention must be relevant to the destination content to bring value to your SEO optimization.

In order to give more weight to your internal mesh, it is also advisable to avoid general anchors and provide no indication of targeted content, such as:

  • More details
  • Etc.

It is recommended to vary anchors and not always choose the same expressions.

Quality and not quantity
The goal of internal mesh is not to add a large amount of links on a web page, the aim is to add internal links that add a more to the quality of your content.

For example, a blog article containing only 2 or 3 links correctly positioned, pointing to a coherent content that brings useful information to the reader will be more effective in terms of SEO, that a blog article offering a link all 10 words that ultimately does not bring much to the content.

This kind of practice can also be seen as SEO optimization by search engines and therefore be penalized, your internal mesh will therefore lose its interest.

11. Getting many external links

For a site to obtain a good natural referencing, an addition of external links is more than advised. These links, called backlinks (translate “back back”), allow visitors who click on a keyword to go directly to another site, or another page on your site. Among other things, Google relies on the same backlinks to schedule the websites. The rule is then simple: The more external links you make, the better your positioning.

12. Favouring quality netlinking

It’s not because backlinks allow a better place in search engines such as Google that you need to neglect the quality of links. They are of no use if they are too many and of poor quality. To be of good quality, the word anchor of the link must be particularly thoughtful, it is about finding the best possible word for this link. The anchorages of the “Link by here” type are therefore to be avoided.

13. Site always available

This seems logical but if your site is temporarily unavailable or if it is more often, it becomes problematic for your visitors. This is also the case for Googlebot, the Google indexing robot, which can decrease your positioning if it falls too often on error pages 404, if the server blocks access or if the page takes too long to load. It is therefore good to check the availability of your site very often.

14. Apply the rewriting URL

If a URL is too complicated, then the user will have difficulty finding it, hence the interest of having a simple URL, including your domain name, followed by keywords, and not encrypted code.
